Endoscopic Ultrasound
Sometimes an ultrasound probe is connected to the endoscope tube. This is called an endoscopic ultrasound. An ultrasound uses sound waves to build a picture of the area. This test is used to look at the wall of the esophagus, stomach, or the bile duct and gallbladder. It may help clinicians to have a better idea of the size of a tumor and how deep it is developed in the tissues of the body. They may also be able to see if nearby lymph nodes are enlarged.
the results It can take time for test results to come through, especially after a biopsy. How long depends on why you are having the test, but it may be a couple of weeks. Usually, the doctor or nurse who performs endoscopy requires a straight relationship. The report is typed and sent to your specialist, which gives the results to you. If your doctor has sent you for the test, the results will be sent directly to the GP surgery.
Understandably, waiting for results can make you anxious. Try to remember to ask your doctor or nurse how long you should expect to wait for the results when you are first asked to go to take the test. If it is not an emergency, and you have not heard a couple of weeks after the test, ring secretary of the doctor to see if the results are back.
A recent technique called video ecoendoscopia allows us to study the same organs through small ultrasound probe which, positioned on the end of the endoscope, are used to assess injuries in depth or bodies external to the viscera examined as pancreas, liver, etc.. having, furthermore, the ability to withdraw tissue with a needle through the walls of the viscera themselves.
